For children aged 4 to 6, we strongly recommend the Introduction to Music course as a prerequisite for learning an instrument. This program comprises two volumes and is given over a school year.

For greater efficiency, groups are put together, when possible, by age, and we ask a parent to attend whenever possible. Students learn to read music in a fun way, using the xylophone and small percussion instruments (maracas, triangle, tambourine, etc.). In the notebook and on the instrument, each note is assigned a color, making it easier to learn how to read music.

Class duration: 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the number of participants. One class per week.

Frais de cours : 30$ inscription annuelle, 21$ par cours (payable d’avance, paiements mensuels disponibles, rabais de 5% ou 6% si l’année est payée au complet à l’inscription).

Frais de matériel : 22,04$ (incluant 5% taxe) pour le 1e volume et 11,50$ par mois (taxes incluses) si vous devez louer un xylophone (achat également disponible). Le deuxième volume (22,04$) sera requis en février.

Children aged 5 and 6 who have completed both volumes of the xylophone music initiation course can enroll in a semi-private piano course (with another child of the same age). They are also introduced to music theory, using a workbook specially designed for young students who cannot yet read.

Class duration: 30 minutes. One class per week.

This course is designed for children aged 7 and 8 who have never had private piano lessons. In addition to being introduced to the instrument, they will receive basic musical training via Jocelyne Laberge's "Le solfège ça m'amuse" and "La théorie ça m'amuse" methods. This is a less demanding option than private lessons for beginners, since it requires little practice at home.

Class duration: 45 minutes. One class per week.

An overview of the solfeggio method

Some courses can be offered on a semi-private basis. For a course to be effective, students paired together to learn the same instrument (or voice) must be roughly the same age and, above all, at the same level.

This option is particularly suitable for students who have taken a group introductory course in the previous year, or for members of the same family.

Class duration: 30, 45 or 60 minutes

Choir registration

This course is usually given in addition to private or semi-private musical instrument and singing lessons. Several levels are offered (from age 7).

At the preparatory (beginner) level, we use Jocelyne Laberge's "Le solfège ça m'amuse" and "La théorie ça m'amuse" methods. In the first year, we continue with volume 2 of "ça m'amuse" solfeggio. Thereafter, we use volumes from the École de musique Vincent d'Indy. From elementary level upwards, musical dictation is also part of the program, and we add music literature (history) at intermediate level.

Class duration: 30 minutes (preparatory) or 45 minutes for other levels

Number of students per group: 2 to 6 students

Préparatoire 1 : élèves de 7 à 10 ans n’ayant jamais suivi de cours de théorie / solfège

Préparatoire 2 : élèves ayant commencé les volumes de madame Laberge (mais non terminés)

First year: 11 years and over (no pre-requisites) or 8-10 years having successfully completed preparatory B or 1st year A at the instrument.
